The atmosphere in my classes is based on the rapport I build with my students. I have a good sense of humor and always try to identify what makes my students laugh so I can joke with them and earn their trust. I tend to learn about their interests so I can use them as examples or spark conversations to give them more practice. When they see that I pay attention to what they care about, they get excited and want to talk more. Through this, I can correct their mistakes and give them more opportunities to learn.
Visual aids are always a part of my classes. I’m good at drawing and often use pictures, various types of images, and videos. We also incorporate music. I believe grammar should be taught directly to give students clarity on the rules, so they can use those patterns to analyze real-life examples and create sentences.
In my in-person group classes, there are plenty of group activities, and the class dynamic is highly engaging. I make an effort to switch students around and assign tasks that prevent them from sitting in one place for the whole class, keeping them from getting bored.
Over the past 15 years, my experience has shown that my students have been able to enjoy my classes while learning effectively.
What I take pride in is having learned how to make learning both enjoyable and effective for my students. I know how to simplify concepts, and as a result, my students realize that they can easily speak English if they learn the patterns and practice consistently.
