French teacher, 15 years experience for oil companies, expatriates

Karine is my French language teacher and I highly recommend her. She teaches to my immediate needs; what French I need for my day-to-day life which I have successfully used, as well as the broader language teachings. Karine works at my pace but also motivates me on what I need to do to keep improving. Her plan is clear and she follows up from every lesson with notes and voice recordings. I enjoy every lesson with Karine, the learning of course and she is kind, but also the humour and the discovery of all things French.

Karine is flexible and provides real-world examples. My goal is conversational French. And I like that she advises when some phrasing is outdated or overly formal. My lessons with Karine are a blend of conversation, vocabulary and comprehension. She is always willing to change up the course to suit what works best for me on the learning end. This is what I value most in a language teacher: someone willing to find what works for the individual student. Karine does this.

In my career I was a teacher and I have also done a good deal of private tutoring, so I know what is needed to make a good teacher, one who gives students confidence and enables them to progress well. I have been tutored by Karine for a number of years now, having moved to France with relatively little language. Originally we undertook lessons face to face, but during Covid turned to online sessions. Both have worked well for me. Sessions are varied - straight conversation, reading and understanding, listening and understanding, plus grammar. You may meet people who say they just want to speak French but do not want to be bothered with grammar - you cannot progress like that. Karine introduces new grammar from time to time, and then returns to reinforce it thereafter - a good way to teach in my opinion. If you do not grasp an idea the first time, you are not made to feel inadequate; a little perseverence on your part and Karine's gets you there. She is a good, patient teach
