I am a mature, responsible, academically creative Educator, Facilitator, Assessor and Moderator. What do I have? A combination of academic qualifications, experience, passion for learning which is responsive to the needs of learners and an insatiable thirst for knowledge which fuels my academic creativity. What is my mission in life? I desire to touch the hand of creation by empowering our learners with vital skills, knowledge and values to enable them to restore and maintain their dignity and rightfully claim their place in society. What are my core beliefs? I believe that I am a lifelong learner, I believe that every human being must be given an equal and fair opportunity to learn vital life skills that are responsive to their need to survive and function in society, I believe that we all have the capacity to acquire knowledge that adds holistic value, I believe in our children. My desire to add value to mankind motivated me to pursue a career in education which inadvertently led to teaching learners with special needs. Aligned to White Paper 6s aim to address and alleviate barriers to learning, I have spent the past 6 years honing my teaching pedagogy and adapting it to respond to the needs of learners who are differently abled. I am able to create and adapt teaching resources to accommodate the learners’ specific needs, conduct baseline tests to determine the cognitive abilities of learners which informs the grade of instruction and formulate teaching plans which incorporates topics which will add benefit to the learners in the big wide-open world. What do I do best? I work within a transversal team of professionals which includes psychologists, therapists, medical personnel, and fellow educators to discuss gaps in behaviour and learning to put measures in place to remedy and close said gaps in the best interest of the learner. The feedback that I provide during case discussions is not just a paper exercise, rather, it serves to help the learner to develop both academically, socially, and psychologically. Our long-term goal is the development of an inclusive education and training system that will uncover and address barriers to learning, recognise and accommodate the diverse range of learning needs but most importantly, to deliver learning that is responsive to the needs of the learners’ ability to find meaningful employment and participation.
